How this works

The estimate is a four-factor composite: base salary by city tier and years of experience, scaled by domain multiplier (BFSI and gaming pay more, EdTech less in 2026), then by skill multiplier (manual tester at 0.85x, senior SDET at 1.45x), then a small tool stack bonus that caps at six tools.

The low and high values are the 25th and 75th percentile of offers we see at each combination. The median is the 50th. If three friends with the same profile interview at three companies, you should expect at least one offer at the low, one near the median, and at most one near the high. Outside that range tells you the role description is unusual or the company is paying above or below market on purpose.

Where does the salary data come from?
Glassdoor, PayScale, Jobted, and Cutshort public salary data sampled in mid-2026, combined with Naukri and LinkedIn job-posting bands, plus Upcode Software Labs hiring data from BFSI and e-commerce engagements. Numbers are LPA (lakhs per annum, gross, INR).
Why a band instead of a single number?
Salary at any single (city, experience, skill) combination always varies. Showing only the median over-promises. The low / median / high band is the 25th / 50th / 75th percentile we see in real offers.
How accurate is this for tier-3 cities?
Less accurate than for Bengaluru or Mumbai because the sample is smaller. The numbers err on the conservative side. Remote roles at tier-1 employers can push 20-30 percent above the tier-3 band shown.
Does the calculator account for stock or bonuses?
No. The numbers are gross fixed pay only. Most Indian QA roles offer little equity; senior SDET and lead positions at well-funded startups may add 10-20 percent in RSUs or performance bonus on top.
